Become an Elevator

ee becomeAs an Elevator, you’ll have a weekly opportunity to share your interests and passions with a student, opening them up to a whole new world that may spark in them a greater passion for learning! In turn, students often expose their Elevator to new ways of seeing the world. Elevators and students engage in activities they both enjoy, like reading, games, sports, arts & crafts, and more. Elevators aren’t burdened by specific curricular requirements, but are free to work with their student on projects or activities that they both find interesting.

Commitment and Impact

We ask every Elevator to commit to meet with the student they have been matched with for 30-45 minutes weekly for at least one academic year. In many cases, Elevators continue with their student for several years. As one Elevator put it, “You can’t stop me from Elevating!”

Elevators impact the lives of their students in five important ways. Their time spent with a student results in:

  • enhancing social skills and emotional well-being.
  • improving cognitive skills through dialogue and listening
  • serving as a role model
  • building self-confidence
  • inspiring curiosity and motivation to learn

The benefits that flow back to Elevators include:

  • serving as a role model and giving back to their community
  • sharing their passions and cultivating new interests while nurturing student curiosity and the motivation to learn
  • building a mutually gratifying relationship while engaging in their favorite activities
  • connecting with co-workers and feeling more connected to the community
  • enhancing a sense of fulfillment and honing interpersonal and leadership skills
